Kendall booters blank Marion in Class C2 quarterfinals

Top seeded Kendall blanked visiting No. 8 Marion 2-0 this evening in the quarterfinal round of the Section V Class C 1 boys soccer playoffs.

Jake Adams scored what proved to be the game winner with two minutes to go in the first half off an assist from Riley Iqbal.

“That was a big momentum booster,” said Kendall Coach Brian Duffy.

That same combination of Iqbal to Adams clicked again with 10 minutes to go in the second half for the clinching goal.

Riley Rees earned the shutout in goal for Kendall which also got strong efforts from midfielders Cody Travis and Mookie Nauden.

“It was a physical game but we kept our heads and had a strong effort,” said Duffy.

Staying undefeated at 15-0-3, Kendall will play in the semifinals next Wednesday aginst either No. 4 Keshequa or No. 5 Honeoye.

Williamson 2, Holley 2

No. 5 Williamson bested No. 4 Holley 4-3 in a penalty kick shootout to nip the host Hawks in the quarterfinals of the Section V Class C2 playoffs.

Holley trailed 2-0 at the half but battled back to knot the contest on goals by Joe DeFelice and Gabe Mendoza. The tying goal by Mendoza came with just 1:58 to go in regulation time.

Neither team could find the net in the two overtimes setting the stage for the deciding penalty kick shootout which Williamsson won to advance to the C2 semifinals.

Holley finishes the season at 9-5-4.
