Kendall, Barker win tourney semifinals

The host Lady Eagles and Barker both scored victories this evening in the semifinal round of the Kendall Against Cancer Girls Basketball Tournament.

Kendall defeated rival Holley 31-22 and Barker downed Rochester School of the Arts (SOTA) 39-30.

Kendall will now face Barker in the championship game at 5 p.m. Saturday while Holley will meet SOTA in the consolation contest at 3 p.m.

Tania Arellano took game high scoring honors for Kendall with 20 points as Taylor Kingsbury added 6, Taylor ReQua 3 and Elizabeth Rath 2. Arellano, Kingsbury and Kali Haskins each grabbed off 10 rebounds. Arellano also had 6 steals.

Sam Barniak led Holley with 8 points as Jade Underwood added 5, Tabitha Swift 4, Emily Bailey and Makenzie Ferranti 2 each and Hayley Rowley 1. Underwood also had 8 rebounds and Barniak 4 blocks and 4 steals.

Kendall jumped out to a 9-2 first quarter lead on three baskets by Arellano and a three by ReQua.

The Lady Eagles stayed on top by margins of 18-6 at the half and 23-16 at the three-quarter mark.

Arellano netted 6 in the final period to help Kendall put a lock on the win.

Barker 39, SOTA 30
Morgan Brown scored 14, Melissa Grosshans 9, Caitlyn Mason 7, Kelsi Flegal 4, Courtney Bodine 3 and Lindsey Williams 2 for Barker in the 39-30 victory over SOTA.

Brown scored 6 in the opening period to help Barker jump out to a 12-7 lead.

The Lady Raiders maintained leads of 17-11 at the half and 26-24 after three quarters.

Barker put a lock on the win by outpointing SOTA 13-6 in the final period as Grosshans had a three, Brown two baskets and Flegal and Mason one each.

Elba 64, Lyndonville 34
Aubrey Lewis scored 14 and Morgan Hungerford 7 for Lyndonville in the Lady Tigers 64-34 Genesee Region League loss at Elba this evening.
