Kendall advances to CC finals

Arkport upends Lyndonville

A quick start and a strong finish combined to propell No. 10 seed Kendall past No. 3 Mynderse 6-3 this afternoon in the semifinal round of the Section V Class CC baseball playoffs at Livonia.

The Eagles, who upended No. 2 East Rochester 8-0 in the quarterfinals, will now face No. 4 Avon for the CC championship on Friday at a site to be determined.

Kendall scored two quick runs in the first inning on doubles by winning pitcher Alex Sutphen and Garett Love and a single by Cody Spellan.

The Eagles added solo runs in the second inning on an error and in the fourth on a single by Love to maintain a narrow 4-3 lead.

Kendall finally put a lock on the win and a trip to the finals by scoring twice in the seventh on a two-run double by Richie Swift which followed a single by Joe Robb and a double by Mookie Nauden.

“That was huge,” said Kendall Coach Tige Noni of the seventh inning rally.

Sutphen, Love and Nauden each finished with three hits.

On the mound, Sutphen scattered nine hits and struck out seven.

Avon ousted No. 8 Holley 10-0 in the other semifinal.

Class DD

Arkport 12, Lyndonville 5
Breaking away from a 3-3 deadlock, No. 4 Arkport scored nine unanswered runs over a three inning stretch to oust top seeded defending champion Lyndonville 12-5 in the Class DD semifinals at Letchworth.

Arkport broke the tie by scoring twice in the fifth inning on on two walks and a single. Four walks and two hits then plated four runs in the sixth and three walks and two hits added there insurance runs in the seventh.

Lyndonville briefly pulled even at 3-3 by scoring three times in the third inning on an RBI single by Ty Hrovat and a two run single by Chris Scroger. A walk and a single by Justin Edwards set up the threat.

Scroger and AJ Buckland both had two hits for the Tigers.

Lyndonville finishes the season at 19-2.
