Kendall ‘9’ upsets No. 2 East Rochester
Tenth seeded Kendall upset host No. 2 East Rochester 8-0 this afternoon in the quarterfinal round of the Section V Class CC baseball playoffs.
Alex Sutphen and Justin Barrett combined to hurl the shutout for Kendall. Sutphen pitched the first four innings giving up two hits and striking out six. Barrett hurled the final three frames likewise allowing only two hits.
“That was a big win for us,” said Kendall Coach Tige Noni.
Sutphen and Garett Love both banged out three hits and Mookie Nauden two to lead the Eagles at the plate. Love drove in a total of three runs and Nauden scored three times.
Kendall took the lead for good on a two run triple by Love in the third inning which snapped a scoreless deadlock. A single by Nauden and a double by Sutphen set up the threat.
The Eagles then broke the game open by scoring four times in the fourth inning highlighted by two runs on an infield error.
Kendall will next face No. 3 Mynderse which edged No. 6 Bloomfield 1-0.
Also in Class CC, the No. 8 Holley at No. 1 Gananda game was rained out and is scheduled to be made up at 11 a.m. Saturday.
Golf
Kendall finished second at the Section V Class C golf team tournament this afternoon at Livingston Country Club.
Notre Dame took the team title with a score of 179 and Kendall placed second with a 193.
Kendall’s Evan Gaesser took medalist honors with a 38.
The Eagles also had Jacob Adams card a round of 44.
