A rash of early turnovers proved costly as Medina dropped a 39-32 decision to Kenmore East this evening in a season ending interdivisional game at Vets Park.

Kenmore East capitalized on two Medina fumbles and a pass interception in the opening quarter to jump out to a 21-6 lead which the Bulldogs never relinquished.

Kurt McGowan scored touchdowns on runs of 1 and 65 yards after each of the fumble recoveries, one on the opening kickoff and other other in the Bulldogs end zone. Dion Woods returned the interception 99 yards for the other score.

Medina though did battle back cutting the deficit to just one, 27-26 at the half.

Quarterback Jason Hellwig threw touchdown passes of 54 yards to Dylan Lewis, 41 to Brett Pecoraro and 24 to Eddy Schild and also ran 1 yard for another TD to lead that comeback. Hellwig’s TD pass to Schildt came with just four seconds to go in the opening half.

However, the Mustangs could get no closer as the Bulldogs used short touchdown runs of 1 yard by Andy Fields in the third quarter and 4 yards by McGowan in the opening minute of the final period to move back out to a 39-26 lead.

Medina did answer back with a 16 yard Hellwig to Lewis touchdown pass cutting the deficit to 39-32 but the Mustangs could not find the end zone again.

The gridiron meeting was the first ever between the Mustangs and Bulldogs.

Medina finishes the season at 5-4.

Mynderse 32, Holley 12
Jumping out to a 21-0 first half lead, host Mynderse went on to defeat Holley 32-12 this evening the finals of the Section V Class C Conners and Ferris Consolation Bowl.

Holley scored twice in the second half on a 45 yard pass from quarterback Nick Passarell to Clarence Moyer and on a 32 yard run by Zach Day.

Pioneer 50, Barker/Roy-Hart 8
Barker/Roy-Hart scored early in the opening quarter but it was all Pioneer after that as the Panthers rolled to a 50-8 victory Wednesday evening in a season ending interdivisional game.

Dominick Snider scored on a 51 yard run for Barker/Roy-Hart’s only touchdown as Brandinlee Woods added the two-point conversion.

Barker/Roy-Hart finishes the season at 3-6.
