Jr. Wilson claims ‘A’ playoff crown
Jr. Wilson put together a big walk aided late inning rally to defeat Orleans Vets 14-10 this afternoon in the Medina Women’s Softball ‘A’ League playoff championship game.
Trailing 9-3, Jr. Wilson began to rally behind a three-run triple by Michelle Crandall in the fifth inning after walks set up the opportunity.
Jr. Wilson then capitalized on 9 walks along with a two-run single by Jessica Rosenbeck to scored 8 runs in the sixth inning to take the lead for good.
Crandall and Sara Flansburg both had 2 hits in the contest.
Orleans Vets had built up the 9-3 lead as a double by Heather Tower keyed a five-run second inning uprising.
Tower and Ashlee Salisbury both had 3 hits in the game.
Jr. Wilson advanced to the title contest by defeating top seeded regular season champion Banes Machine Shop/Banes Plumbing 18-2 in the winners bracket final.
Penny Roath and Jodi Zacher both had 3 hits, including a double, and Sami Johnson 2 doubles for Jr. Wilson which erupted for 5 quick runs in the first inning and 10 more in the second.
Orleans Vets then nipped Banes 8-7 in the losers bracket final to advance to the title contest.
