Tune-up action for the upcoming high school football season shifted into high gear as Medina hosted its biggest ever scrimmage, a seven team event, this morning at Vets Park.

In addition to the host Mustangs, the scrimmage field included teams from Albion, Barker/Roy-Hart, Elba/Byron-Bergen, Newfane, Wilson and Lew-Port.

“It’s a great day for Orleans County football. It puts football back on the map,” said Albion coach Tony Osburn. “It’s just a great opportunity to see a lot of different looks.”

Each team had the opportunity to run three offensive and three defensive series in 12 minute periods.

“It’s just a great learning environment,” said Medina coach Eric Valley. “It’s a great opportunity to see a lot of different offensive and defensive looks and see how we respond under game conditions.”

Medina will open the season against Amherst at 7:30 p.m. this coming Friday at Vets Park while Albion will visit Barker/Roy-Hart at 7 p.m. Friday at Middleport. Both games are B-North Division contests.

Holley, which begins Genesee Region League competition at Notre Dame of Batavia at 1:30 p.m. next Saturday, competed in a multi-school scrimmage today at East Rochester.
