Irish top Purple Eagles in tourney opener

Roaring out to a commanding 22 point half-time advantage, Notre Dame went on to defeat Albion 74-60 this evening in the opening round of the Batavia Lions Club Tournament at Genesee Community College.

Josh Johnson scored 22 of his game high 27 points, including three threes, and Tyler Prospero netted 12 of his 15, including two threes, in the decisive opening half to spearhead the attack for the Irish which led 19-9 after one period and 46-24 at the break.

Notre Dame maintained a commanding 25 point, 64-41 advantage at the three-quarter mark as seven different players scored baskets for the Irish.

Clayton Stanton scored 14 and Austin Loyd 13, including three threes, to to lead a parade of 11 point getters for Albion. Brady Meakin added 8, Alex Bison, Des Blackmon and Gary Moore 5 each, Manny Thompson 4, Tommy Mattison and Manwell Taylor 2 and Kory Reynolds and Tyler Rotoli 1.

Now at 2-3, Albion will next face Batavia in the consolation game on December 29 while Notre Dame will take on University Prep of Rochester in the championship contest. University Prep nipped Batavia 59-55 in the other semifinals.
