Irish top Mustangs in tourney semifinal
Steadily pulling away, Notre Dame rolled to a 67-37 victory over Medina in the semifinals of the small school division of the Batavia Lions Club Tournament this evening at Genesee Community College.
Jordan Welker scored a game high 21 points, Jaden Sherwood 11, Jay Antinore 10 and Hayden Groff and CJ Thornby 9 each to spark Notre Dame.
The Irish held leads of 9, 20-11, after the first period, 15, 33-18, at the half and 26, 54-28, at the three-quarter mark. Welker scored 10, including two threes, and Sherwood 8, including two threes in the opening quarter. Groff netted 8 and Welker 6 in the third stanza.
Aiden Pitts led the way for Medina with 14, including four threes, as Cole Callard had 8, Jerrell Nealy 7, Jack Ceccini 4 and Cayden Lilleby and Roosevelt Mitchell 2 each.
Medina will now face Elba in the consolation game Thursday afternoon while Notre Dame will take on Oakfield-Alabama in the title contest. Oakfield-Alabama topped Elba 69-39 in the other semifinal.
Batavia 77, Roy-Hart 41
Building up a 41-26 half-time advantage, Batavia went on to defeat Roy-Hart 77-41 in a large school division semifinal.
Jamel Johnson Jr. led Roy-Hart with 25. Rem Albee added 5, Thomas Russo 4, Jackson Webber 3 and Andrew Waters and Dan Aquilina 2 each.
Roy-Hart will now face Attica in the consolation game Thursday afternoon. Batavia will take on LeRoy in the championship game. LeRoy downed Attica 48-30 in the other semifinal.
