Scoring solo runs in five different innings, No. 4 seed Notre Dame downed No. 2 Lyndonville 5-2 in the Section V Class D1 softball championship game this afternoon at Fillmore High School.

Winning pitcher Loretta Sorochty, Emma Sisson, Kaydence Stehlar and Anna Penepento took turns driving in the runs for Notre Dame which tallied in every inning but the first and fourth.

In the circle, Sorochty allowed 5 hits and struck out 11.

Lyndonville’s scoring came in the seventh inning on a two-run single by Brianna Smith. A double by Haley Shaffer and a walk set up the threat.

Earlier, the Lady Tigers got runners to second and third with one out in the fourth inning after singles by Brooke Robinson and Lorelei Dillenbeck and a sacrifice by Brianna Krisher but could not capitalize as Sorochty registered two strikeouts to quickly get out of the jam.

Bella Groves had the other hit for Lyndonville which finishes the season at 15-4.
