Holley’s Hall of Fame to induct the Hawks two state championship soccer teams and coach

Highlighting Saturday’s Homecoming celebration will be the induction of Holley’s two state championship boys soccer teams, the 1990 and 1991 squads, along with Coach Dan Orbaker, who guided both teams, into the Hawks Sports Hall of Fame.

The induction ceremony will be held prior to start of the Holley boys vs. Roy-Hart varsity game which is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the Woodlands Field following the 5:30 p.m. girls varsity contest.

The 1990 team made Holley history by becoming the school’s first state championship soccer team with a 2-1 overtime victory over Southhold of Long Island in the Class D title contest.

The Hawks, which finished the season with s 24-1-1 overall record, advanced to the state title contest by defeating Naples 3-1 in the Section V Class DD title game, Greenwood 4-0 in the Section V Class D state qualifier, North Collins 2-1 in overtime in the West Regional and Roxbury 4-0 in the state semifinal.

Making it two titles in a row, Holley’s 1991 squad defeated Eastport of Long Island 3-1 in overtime in the Class D state championship game to complete a near perfect 24-0-1 season.

The Hawks advanced to the final by downing rival Kendall 2-1 in the Section V Class DDD title game, Jasper-Troupsburg 4-0 in the Section V Class D state qualifier, North Collins 3-0 in the West Regional and Worchester 4-1 in the state semifinals.

Orbaker coached the Holley varsity squad for 33 years guiding the Hawks to 13 Genesee Region League titles, 9 Section V championships and the 2 state titles.

Inducted into the Section V Hall of Fame in 2019, he guided the Hawks to over 450 wins and was named Section V Coach of the Year 10 times.
