Rallying from as much as a 20 point first half deficit, Holley battled back to edge past host CG Finney 36-34 this afternoon in an 8 Man Division football game.

Trailing 26-6, Holley got back into the game in the second quarter on a short touchdown run by quarterback Jacob Norman, a two-point conversion pass from Norman to Tony Farruggia and then a big 65 yard punt return for a touchdown by Jamel Hildreth rallying the Hawks back to within 26-20 at the half.

“That was huge coming just before halftime,” said Holley Coach Wil Prince of Hildreth’s punt return TD.

Keeping the momentum, the Hawks then took the lead for good at 28-26 in the third quarter on a 3 yard touchdown run by Jacob Affronti and a two-point conversion run by Norman.

Holley then got what proved to be the game winning score in the fourth quarter on a 35 yard interception return for a touchdown by Hildreth and a two-point conversion run by Norman.

Norman also accounted for Holley’s first touchdown with a pass to David Farrugggia in the opening quarter.

“We dug ourselves in a big hole early but the kids showed a lot of character. They stayed positive,” said Prince. “Our defense played very well in the second half.”

Norman led the Hawks defense in tackles with 14.

Improving to 2-0, Holley next visits Frewsburg at 7 p.m. Friday.
