Holley nips Albion for Kendall tourney title
Points proved very hard to come by over the first three quarters but scoring picked up down the stretch as Holley nipped Albion 32-30 in the championship game of the Kendall girls basketball tournament this afternoon.
Deadlocked at 8-8 at the half and 16-16 after three quarters, the pace picked up in the final stanza as Holley outpointed Albion 16-14 to claim the narrow win.
Trailing 27-26, Holley rallied for the win by closing with s 6-3 scoring edge.
A basket by Alivia Wolf put Holley back on top to stay at 28-27.
Mia Thom followed up with a layup off a steal and a pair of clutch free throws for the margin of victory.
Thom, who earned tourney MVP honors, had 6 points, 12 rebounds and 3 steals on the day.
The teams traded scores over the first six minutes of the period as a basket by Melia Prince gave Albion its last lead at 27-26.
Wolf finished with a game high 21 points. She had 7 in the third period and 9 in the final stanza including a four point play.
Ella Turpyn added 3 points and Alexis VanAmeron 2 for the Lady Hawks.
Cami London scored 9 and Aaliyah Jones 8 to lead Albion as Prince added 6, Kenzi Snook 4, Paige Newton 2 and Julia Knight 1.
Consolation Game
Kendall 53, Medina 25
Jumping out to a 14-0 lead at the outset, Kendall went on to down Medina 53-25 for third place honors.
Ava LaMay scored 8 and Brooke Rodas 6 during that key opening stretch for Kendall which went on to lead by margins of 31-11 at the half and 45-21 at the three-quarter mark.
LaMay finished with a game high 16, Mia Price 12, Isabella D’Agostino 10, Rodas 9, Alea Barrett 4 and Stella Kwiatek 2.
For Medina, Ariel Smith scored 7, Alexa Demmer 6, Honesty Hill and Samantha Heschke 5 and Cassidy Janas 2.
