Holley-Kendall wrestlers have state qualifier

Holley-Kendall’s Hunter Jewell-Smith has qualified for the upcoming state wrestling championships by placing second at 285 lbs. in the Section V D2 Tournament held at SUNY Brockport today.

Jewell-Smith opened the competition by registering three straight pins in times of 1:42 in the pre-quarterfinals, 1:01 in the quarterfinals and 4:47 in the semifinals to advance to the title bout where he dropped a 6-3 decision to Luke Herendeen from Palmyra-Macedon.

However, he rebounded to lock up his trip to the state championships by scoring a quick 58 second pin over Elijah Bender from Dansville/Wayland-Cohocton in the “True Second” match.

Holley-Kendall also had William Kruger place fourth at 152 lbs.

Lyndonville had Ty Holmes (124) place fifth and Sebastian Temich (160) sixth.
