Holley, Kendall set to open G-R track season

Holley and Kendall will both open Genesee Region League track competition on Thursday as the Hawks host Byron-Bergen and Oakfield-Alabama and the Eagles visit Alexander at 4 p.m.

Holley’s veteran contingent includes Martin Beadle (distance), Chris Balys jumps), Flint DiLella, Glenn Robb (throws), Sami Barniak (throws), Jade Underwood (throws), Emily Radford (distance) and Julia Smith (sprints). All are seniors except DiLella who is a junior, Balys who is a sophomore and Smith who is an eighth grader.

Beadle won both the steeplechase and 1600 and placed second in the 800 at last spring’s G-R All-League meet while Barniak placed second in the discus, Radford fourth in the 3000, Underwood eighth in the shot-put and Robb eighth in shot-put.

The Kendall boys squad is led by veterans senior Nick Hance (sprints, jumps), sophomore Ben Frausch (sprints, jumps), junior Austen Clay (pole vault), senior Taylor Clay (pole vault), junior Brandon Lewis (hurdles) sophomore Joey LoSapio (sprints, hurdles) and junior Paul Urquhart (distance).

Anchoring the lineup for the Kendall girls team will be senior Tania Arellano (jumps), junior Jenna Jacob (hurdles), sophomore Lizzie Rath (distance), Alesa Bartel, sophomore Lexi Payton (hurdles, jumps), senior Jenny West (throws), freshman Lindsay Wright (hurdles, jumps) and freshman Megan Hardenbrook (sprints, jumps).

The veteran members of the Kendall girls squad include, in front, Jenna Jacob, Lizzie Rath and Tania Arellano. In back are Alesa Bartel, Lexi Payton, Jenny West, Lindsay Wright and Megan Hardenbrook.

Arellano placed second in the triple jump and fifth in the long jump, Jacob third in the 100 hurdles, Payton fifth in the 400 hurdles, Wright sixth in the high jump and Rath seventh in the 3000 at last spring’s G-R All-League meet.

The Lady Eagles though will be missing three key underclassmen members of the 400 relay team which finished in the top three at the state meet, juniors Maya and Taylor Rutland, and freshman Taylor ReQua, who are not competing in track this spring.

Holley’s Schedule:  April 9 – Byron-Bergen and Oakfield-Alabama, 15 – at Wheatland-Chili, 24 – at Brighton Invitational, 29 – at Pemroke, May 2 – at Batavia Invitationals, 6 – at Holley, 8 – at Victor Invitational, 13 – Attica, 15 – at Marion Invitational, 23 – G-R All-League set at Holley. (meets at 4 p.m.)

Kendall’s Schedule: April 9 – at Alexander, 15 -a at Wheatland-chili, 22 – Notre Dame and Oakfield-Alabama, May 5 – at Byron-Bergen, 13 – attics and Holley, 16 – at Rush-Henrietta Invitational, 23 – G-R All-League meet at Holley (meets at 4 p.m.)
