Holley, Kendall netters set to open G-R season

Photo by Mike Wertman – This veteran trio of Brady Smith, Ian Penders and Jon Rusin will lead Holley into the upcoming Genesee Region League tennis season.

Holley and Kendall both face a busy opening week of Genesee Region League tennis competition, weather permitting.

Holley is scheduled to visit Attica Tuesday, Alexander Thursday and Pembroke Friday while Kendall is slated to host Wheatland-Chili Tuesday and Oakfield-Alabama Wednesday.

The veteran trio of Ian Penders and Jon Rusin and junior Brady Smith look to man the three singles positions for Holley which is also looking for help at the doubles spots from senior Andy Spychaski, juniors Cameron Bennage, Ben Scott, Hunter DeFelice and sophomores Alex Mounts and Diana Yaroschuk.

I’m optimistic about having a winning season,” said Hawks Coach John Grillo. “We lost a lot to graduation but I think we can have a competitive and winning season.”

Seniors Riley Iqbal and Jamie Treat lead the way for Kendall.

Seniors Riley Iqbal and Jamie Treat lead Kendall’s underclassmen dominated lineup which also includes juniors Zach Rohr, David Maslin and Colin Lewis along with sophomore Kenny Price and freshmen Matt Murray and Chris Butlin.

Holley’s Schedule: April 7 – at Attica, 9 -at Alexander, 10 – at Pembroke, 13 – Byron-Bergen, 17 – at Oakfield-Alabama, 20 – at Kendall, 22 – Elba, 24 – Notre Dame, 27 – at Wheatland-Chili, May 1 – Attica, 4 – Alexander, 6 – Pembroke – 8 – at Byron-Bergen. (4 p.m. matches)
