Holley grapplers win Cal-Mum Tournament title

Avenging an early season loss, Holley edged past North Rose-Wolcott 44-38 this afternoon to capture the Caledonia-Mumford Duals championship.

Holley advanced to the tournament finals by defeating Cal-Mum 67-9, Avon 60-21 and Livonia 60-25.

Holley’s Martin Beadle, who went 4-0 on the day, earned the tourney’s MVP honor.

Kevin Avery and Lucas Silvis also both went 4-0 and Dave Weaver 3-0 for the Hawks as Brandon Morrell, Justin Lysyczyn, Taylor Klimack, Nick Shenck, Dan Flanagan and Jake Bailey all went 3-1.

Lockport Tournament

Brennen Callara placed fourth at 106 for Medina this afternoon at the Lockport Tournament.

In the JV competition, the Mustangs had Kalvin Packer place second and Ryan Kruger and Cody Crane both take third.

Barker/Roy-Hart and Lyndonville matmen also participated in the tournament.

Eastern States

Three Lyndonville wrestlers – Tony Recco (113), Jeff Gress Jr. (99) and Tom Follman (152) – participated in the Eastern States Tournament at Sullivan Community College.

Recco, who was seeded third, scored pins in his first two matches but then lost in the pre-quarterfinal round.

Medina to host Team Tourney

Medina will play host to a six school team tournament on January 25.

In addition to the host Mustangs, the tournament’s lineup will include Holley, Maryvale, Wilson, St. Francis and Williamsville East.
