Holley downs rival Kendall for first win

Snapping a brief two game season opening losing streak, Holley bested rival Kendall 50-37 this afternoon in a non league boys basketball game at Kendall.

Broek Ostrom scored a game high 19 points and Erik Lang tallied 17 to spearhead the offense for Holley as Mason Neale added 8, James Tette 4 and Charlie Turpyn 2.

Derek Edick scored 12 to lead Kendall as Devin Edick added 7, Zach Barrett 5, Quante Gillians 4, Braxton Zapentine 3 and Jeffrey Pratt, Dutch Steffen and Jorden Ostrander 2 each.

Kendall did grab a slender 14-13 lead at the end of the opening period which was dominated by long range shooting. Devin Edick hit two threes and Barrett one for Kendall while Lang had two and Ostrom one for Holley.

However, the visiting Hawks answered back with a 13-4 scoring edge in the second quarter to take the lead for good by a 26-18 margin at the half.

Lang hit another three while Tette added two baskets and Ostrom one to lead that uprising by the Hawks.

Keeping the momentum, Holley upped its lead a bit to 12, 41-29, at the three-quarter mark as Ostrom scored 8, Neale 4 and Lang 3 in the third period.

Kendall did come battling back cutting the deficit to six, 43-37, midway through the fourth quarter after an 8-2 run which included a layup and three free throws by Derek Edick and a rebound bucket by Ostrander.

However, the Eagles could not score again over the final four minutes as the Hawks closed with a 7-0 run ignited by a three by Lang  to lock up victory No. 1 of the season.

Holley next hosts Lyndonville and Kendall (0-3) entertains Elba on Monday.
