Holley boys, Kendall girls will host soccer sectional games Saturday

Photos by Cheryl Wertman – Kendall’s Madison Jacob and Holley’s Jacob Downey and their teammates will host Section V sectional quarterfinal games on Saturday.

No. 3 seed Holley will face a very familiar foe as the Hawks host No. 6 Pembroke in the quarterfinal round of the Section V Class C-1 boys soccer playoffs at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

The teams split a pair of meetings during the Genesee Region League season with the Dragons taking the first 3-2 in overtime at Pembroke and the Hawks the rematch 1-0 at Holley.

Pembroke advanced by nipping No. 11 East Rochester 5-4 in the pre quarterfinals.

Holley brings an 8-5-3 record into the sectionals while Pembroke is 9-8.

The victor advances to a semifinal round meeting on October 25 with the winner of the No. 2 Williamson vs. No. 7 Marcus Whitman contest.

In a girls Section V Class D-1 quarterfinal, No. 4 Kendall will host No. 12 Bishop Kearney at 6 p.m. Saturday.

The contest will be a rematch of an early season meeting which saw the Lady Eagles edge Kearney 1-0 in the Kendall Tournament.

Kendall, which is now 13-4, advanced by blanking No. 13 Pavilion 4-0 in the pre quarterfinals while Kearney, which is 9-7-1, upended No. 5 Naples 2-1.

The victor will then face the winner of the No. 1 Wheatland-Chili vs. No. 8 Alfred-Almond contest in the semifinals on October 25.

Section VI playoffs
The No. 8 Albion girls will face top seed City Honors in the quarterfinal round of the Section VI Class B-1 playoffs at 5 p.m. Friday at Johnnie B. Wiley Field in Buffalo.

The Purple Eagles advanced by nipping rival Medina/Lyndonville 1-0 in overtime in the pre quarterfinals.

In Class B-2 girls competition on Friday No. 6 Roy-Hart visits No. 3 Southwestern, No. 4 Wilson hosts No. 5 Eden and No. 2 Akron hosts JFK, all at 3:30 p.m.

In boys Class B-1 quarterfinal action, No. 2 Newfane hosts No. 7 Oracle at 3:30 this afternoon.

Also at 3:30 this afternoon in Class B-2  No. 5 Roy-Hart visits No. 4 Olmsted, No. 3 Wilson hosts No. 6 Riverside and No. 2 Akron visits No. 2 Southwestern.
