Turning in yeoman work on defense, No. 4 seed Holley dropped a narrow 1-0 decision to No. 1 World of Inquiry of Rochester this evening in the semifinal round of the Section V Class C1 boys soccer playoffs at Spencerport.

World of Inquiry, which was unable to capitalize on six corner opportunities and had another shot rattle off the post in the first half, netted the game’s lone goal midway through the second half on a shot by Toyi Hakkizimana.

Goalie Patrick Bower made several key saves and defender Chris Balys came back to head another World of Inquiry shot away from the goal for the Hawks in the first half.

“They were quick and fast but we played pretty hard,” said Holley Coach Dan Orbaker.

Holley put on good pressure late in the first half but couldn’t capitalize on three shots. Likewise late in the second half, the Hawks put on good pressure but again failed to connect on a couple of shots.

“We had some scoring opportunities but we just couldn’t cash and they weathered the flurry,” said Orbaker.

Holley finishes the season at 13-3-3 while World of Inquiry advances to the C1 finals with a 16-1-1 record.
