Holley, Barker/Roy-Hart matmen place second at area tournaments

Holley went 4-1 to place second at the Springville Tournament and Barker/Roy-Hart took second place honors at the Orchard Park Tournament to highlight today’s area wrestling action.

Holley defeated Gowanda 51-31, Gow 77-6, Williamsville East 72-18 and Springville 48-28 before being nipped by North Tonawanda 46-41 in the finals.

Nick Shenck, Erick Balys and Austen Vroman all went 5-0 on the day for the Hawks.

Cameron Swick and Brent Bachman both captured first place honors to lead the way for Barker/Roy-Hart.

Ryan Ulrich, Tyler Choate, Kirk Fay and Joe Nolan all added second place finishes as Nick Fazzolari took a third and Sam Dauphin a fourth.

Swick earned the tournament’s Most Outstanding Wrestler award.

Lyndonville went 1-4 at the Churchville-Chili Tournament defeating LeRoy 36-30 but losing to Fairport, Liverpool, Clarence and Perry.

Jeff Gress Jr., Garren Bayne, Tom Follman and Dustin Hinkley all went 4-1 on the day and Dustin Joy 3-2 for the Tigers.

Five Medina wrestlers placed at the Batavia Tournament.

Joe Velez (26) and Charles Beach (220) both earned first place honors going 5-0 on the day.

Velez earned the tournament’s Most Valuable Wrestler award.

The Mustangs also had Colby Petrie (99) place third, Kalvin Packer (195) fourth and Bobby Geiger (120) fifth.
