Holley and Kendall girls post shutout wins in sectional openers; Lyndonville/Medina bows

Holley and Kendall both posted shutout victories today to open the Section V girls soccer playoffs.

No. 5 seed Holley blanked visiting No. 12 Alexander 4-0 in a Class C 1 game while No. 9 Kendall shutout No. 8 Bolivar-Richburg by the identical score of 4-0 in a Class C2 contest.

In a Class B1 contest, No. 9 Greece Odyssey defeated No. 8 Lyndonville/Medina 9-2 at Vets Park.

Avenging a 2-1 regular season Genesee Region League loss, Holley bested Alexander as Sam Bates scored two goals and Emma Brady and Jailyn Bishop each netted one.

Brady also dished out two assists while Bates and Emma Downey each had one.

Layne Walker earned the shutout in goal making four saves as Holley improves to 11-4-2.

Kendall took a slender 1-0 lead in the first half on a goal by T’Mia Kitchings.

The Lady Eagles then pulled away in the second half on goals by Megan Gates, Kitchings and Brooke Rodas.

Mary Jones made 8 saves to earn the shutout in goal.

Improving to 8-8-2, Kendall next visits top seeded York at 3 p.m. Friday in a quarterfinal contest.

Greece Odyssey jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first 10 minutes.

Lyndonville/Medina did cut the deficit to 2-1 on a goal by Ella Lewis on a header but the Lady Tigers could not pull even.

Odyssey moved out to a 5-2 lead at the half and then locked up the win with four unanswered goals in the second half.

Lewis also scored the Lady Tigers other goal.
