Holley and Albion win league tennis openers

Coming from behind in all four winning matches, Holley bested Alexander 4-1 in a season opening Genesee Region League tennis match this afternoon.

Aaron Strathearn at first singles and Cheyan Palmer at second singles both won in straight sets for Holley.

The Hawks then locked up the victory with three set victories by the doubles teams of Eli Bibby-Jake Peters and Erik Balys-Kory Puente.

Albion scored a sweep of the singles matches to win its Niagara-Orleans League opener by a narrow 3-2 1/2 margin over host Roy-Hart.

In the singles matches Matt Kovaleski defeated Mason Collins 6-0, 6-2; Carson Bader downed Collin Dodge 6-2, 6-1 and Josh Riley edged Dominic Pericciny 7-5, 7-6.

Roy-Hart swept the doubles matches as Michael and Jason Kuchey defeated Chase Froman and Matt Rowcliffe 7-5, 6-1; Aspen Moore and Kayla Hagen downed Andrew Caldwell and Katelynn Spierdowis 6-1, 6-1 and Jordyn Bobzien and Isabel Keirn bested Zack Kilner and Josh DePoty 6-1, 7-5.

In the other N-O match, defending champion Akron improved to 2-0 with a 5 1/2-0 win over Barker which slips to 0-2.

Nate Chubb, Will Chubb and Morgan Wdowka all scored singles wins for Akron which also got victories by the first two doubles teams of Micah Suckow-Harry Fitzgerald and Skyler Masse-Abbie Shine.
