Holland upends Medina in field hockey sectionals; Barker, Roy-Hart win

A quick goal in the first three minutes sparked No. 7 seed Holland to a 3-0 win over No. 2 Medina in a Section VI Class C quarterfinal round field hockey playoff game this evening.

Holland took the lead for good as Jenna Dietz scored just 2:32 in off a corner opportunity.

Holland capitalized on another corner to make it 2-0 with 16:16 to go in the second half on a goal by Kelsey Robertson.

Dietz rounded out the Holland scoring with a goal with just 18 seconds to go.

Holland will next face No. 6 Eden in the semifinals. Eden nipped No. 3 Akron 1-0.

In the other quarterfinals, defending champion top seeded Barker blanked No. 8 Newfane 6-0 and No. 4 Roy-Hart downed No. 5 Wilson 2-0.

Katrina Clare scored 3 goals for Barker as Ella Gooding, Rachel Hurtgam and Brianna Bachman each had 1. Hurtgam also had 3 assists.

Cheyenne Stilwell and Mandy Hill scored second half goals to earn the win for Roy-Hart.

Barker will now face Roy-Hart in the other semifinal.

That semifinal doubleheader will be held at 5 and 7 p.m. on October 30 at Clarence.
