Hickory Ridge crowns club champions

The Hickory Ridge Golf Association held its club championships and senior club championships this weekend.

This was a net tournament and taking first in women’s club championship division was Deb Wood with a 78.

Rich Wheeler, a familiar name to the Pete Sullivan members, won the men’s division with a net 70.

Marcia Zambito, a very good golfer in her own right who usually scores well in the HRGA tournaments, won the women’s senior division with a 72.

Jeff Dobson, another Pete Sullivan member won the senior men’s division with a 71.

Things are tightening up with leagues coming to the end of their golfing season.

The Tuesday Ladies Night Out league has only a few makeups and their position round to go this week.

Low gross for last week was Deb Wood with 40. Patty Pfister had low net honors with 41. Mo Cotter recorded the only birdie on the night.

Standings are incomplete with makeups still to be made. Leading the way as it stands now are Wood and Martin with 100.5 points. Ferguson and Brawn have 84 points with one match to be made up. There is a three way tie for third place between Able and Down, Hazen and Berlew and McNeil and Babbitt. This upcoming week is position round so look for a shakeup in the standings.

The Pete Sullivan Sr. Golf league still have a ways to go as this league plays until the end of September. The second half of the league championship will be played in a few weeks.

Last week Gene Ashe and Dana Vosburgh shared low gross with 77. a new name for 18 hole low net is John Becker who carded a 64 net. Closest to the pin on number 3 was Dan Morphet at 2’ 8”. Closest second shot on number 13 was Steve Novak at 8’ 3”. John True led all birdie makers with 2 while Morphet, Vosburgh, Ashe and Rich Wheeler (Dealer) had one each.

The Men’s Thursday Traveling league has one more week of league play according to their schedule. Then it’s the position round that could determine league champions.

As it stands now, Burgess and Eaton lead in the standings with 292 points. Right behind them is the team of Flansberg and Stalker with 290 points. Denniston and Draper hold third with 240 points. Mike Farrell took low gross honors with 41 while Time Hallenbeck had low net with 30.

Birdies were recorded by Zack Burgess and Scooter Burgess who had two each. Todd Draper and Guy Eaton each had one.
