Former Medina High School pitcher Jason Hellwig (Class of 2015) picked up his first win on the mound for the Sherrill Silversmiths of the New York Collegiate Baseball League, in an 8-5 victory over the Rome Generals this evening.

Hellwig held the Generals to 3 earned runs on 9 hits, striking out 7 over 7 innings pitched.

The Silversmiths are currently tied for first place at 9-5 in the Eastern Division of the NYCBL, which saw 4 former players taken in the 2017 MLB Draft earlier this month.

Hellwig has made 4 appearances for the Silversmiths, all of them starts, posting a 2.86 ERA and 14 strikeouts with only 3 walks in 22 innings of work. His strikeout and innings pitched numbers are both good for top 10 in the NYCBL.

This past spring, Hellwig helped lead Brockport to a third place finish in the SUNY Athletic Conference. He was second on the team in appearances with 14, making 5 starts and posting a 3.21 ERA in 33.2 innings during his sophomore season.
