The National Weather Service in Buffalo has issued a special weather statement, warning that a band of heavy lake effect snow is moving south across the Niagara frontier. This band of heavy lake effect snow will produce brief snow fall rates of 2 to 3 inches per hour and will continue to move south off Lake Ontario early this evening. The snow is expected until 8:45 p.m.

The heaviest snow will be brief, but will result in rapidly deteriorating travel conditions with snow-covered roads and visibility less than a quarter mile.

The Weather Service urges motorists to slow down and allow extra time while traveling.
