A heat advisory has been issued for Orleans County and Western New York today from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The temperature will reach 91 degrees with heat index values from the mid 90s to near 100 expected inland from the Lake Ontario shoreline, the National Weather Service said.

The hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses to occur, the Weather Service said.

People are encouraged to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions if working or spending time outside. When possible people should reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening.

The forecast in the following days includes a mostly sunny Thursday with a high near 78, a sunny Friday with a high near 80, and a sunny Saturday with a high near 87.
