Heat advisory issued for Orleans on Wednesday with heat index in upper 90s
The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday for Orleans and other counties including Genesee, Niagara, Monroe, Wayne, northern Cayuga, Oswego, northern Erie, Livingston and Ontario.
The heat index values are expected to be in the mid to upper 90s. The hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses to occur, the Weather Service said.
People are encouraged drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances, the Weather Service said.
The high temperature on Wednesday is forecast to hit 91, followed by highs of 82 on Thursday, 86 on Friday and 87 on Saturday.
