Heat advisory issued for Orleans County today

A heat advisory has been issued today from 1 to 7 p.m. for Orleans and several other nearby counties, the national Weather Service in Buffalo advised.

Heat index values in the middle to upper 90s are expected. The advisory also includes Niagara, Genesee, Monroe, Wayne, northern Cayuga, Oswego, Livingston and Ontario counties.

The temperature is forecast to reach a high of 89 today. The hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses to occur, the Weather Service said.

People are encouraged to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances, the Weather Service said.

Today’s forecast in Orleans County also includes showers and thunderstorms likely before 4 p.m., with more showers and thunderstorms before 3 a.m. tonight.

The highs for the rest of the week include 78 on Monday, 79 on Tuesday, 82 on Wednesday, 82 on Thursday, 79 on Friday, and 78 on Saturday.
