The National Weather Service in Buffalo has issued a heat advisory today from 11 a.m. to 6  p.m. in Orleans, Niagara, Monroe, Wayne, northern Cayuga, Genesee and Livingston counties.

The heat index values will be in the mid to upper 90s. The combination of high temperatures in the upper 80s and high humidity will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible, the Weather Service said.

People are encouraged to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, avoid extended time in the sun, and check in on relatives and neighbors.

“Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside,” the Weather Service said. “When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening.”
