There is another heat advisory in effect today for Orleans County and most of upstate until 8 p.m. Heat index values this afternoon could hit the upper 90s to 105, said the National Weather Service in Buffalo.

The Weather Service urges people to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

“Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside,” the Weather Service said. “When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.”

The Weather Service also said an area of strong thunderstorms will impact portions of Orleans County, north central Livingston, east central Niagara, Genesee and Monroe counties through 9 a.m.

Those thunderstorms could have winds in excess of 40 mph, and could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects.
