The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for today from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. for Orleans and several other counties.

Heat index values of 95 to 100 are expected in Niagara, Orleans, Genesee, Livingston, Ontario, Monroe, Wayne, northern Cayuga and Oswego counties.

The temperatures are forecast to hit 89 in Orleans County. The hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses to occur, the Weather Service said.

“Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors,” the Weather Service said. “Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening.”

The high temperatures in the following days for Orleans County include 84 on Monday, 76 on Tuesday, 80 on Wednesday and 80 on Thursday.
