Heat advisory in effect from noon to 7 p.m. today
A heat advisory is in effect in Orleans County today from noon to 7 p.m. with heat index values in the mid to upper 90s, the National Weather Service in Buffalo said.
The advisory also includes the counties of Genesee, Livingston, Niagara, Monroe, Wayne, northern Erie, northern Cayuga, Oswego and Ontario.
The hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses to occur, the Weather Service said.
People are encouraged to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances, the Weather Service said.
