Heat advisory for Orleans today with heat index in mid to upper 90s
The National Weather Service in Buffalo has issued a heat advisory today in Orleans, Genesee, Niagara and Monroe counties from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. The heat index in the mid to upper 90s is expected.
The high temperature is forecast at 92 degrees for Orleans. The hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses to occur, the Weather Service said.
People are encouraged to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances, the Weather Service advised.
The heat advisory today also includes Wayne, northern Cayuga, Oswego, Jefferson, Livingston, and Ontario counties.
In Orleans County, the high temperatures in the following days include 80 on Friday, 80 on Saturday and 78 on Sunday.
