Hawks rally falls short in Class C semi
A fourth quarter rally fell just short as Holley dropped a narrow 24-21 decision to Wayland-Cohocton in the semifinals of the Section V Class C Connors & Ferris Bowl this evening at Caledonia-Mumford.
Trailing 24-6 after three quarters, Holley came battling back down the stretch on touchdown passes by quarterback Jeremy Mallett to Camron Labarge of 12 yards and to Nick Schutz of 30 yards with six minutes remaining.
That sliced the deficit to 24-21 as Zach Day added a two-point conversion run after the first TD and Ryan Andrews kicked the extra point after the second However, the Hawks could not reach the end zone again.
Colin Papaj scored on a 45 yard touchdown run for Holley in the second quarter which ended with Wayland-Cohocton up 17-6.
The Golden Eagles, which scored on their first two possessions of the evening, avenged a loss to the Hawks in last year’s Class C Bowl semifinal with the victory.
