No. 2 seed Holley blanked visiting No. 7 Canisteo 2-0 this afternoon in the Section V Class CC quarterfinals.

Dylan Hillabush pitched the first six innings scattering 5 hits and striking out 10 for the Hawks. Joe DeFelice came on to hurl the seventh and struck out the side to lock up the victory.

The Hawks scored the game’s only 2 runs in the bottom of the fourth inning on a barrage of 5 straight hits. A double by Josh Porter ignited that uprising and was followed by consecutive singles by DeFelice, Lucas Silvis, Hillabush and Justin Parker.

Canisteo had threatened in the top of the fourth getting the leadoff runner aboard with a double. However, Hillabush got the next three batters out on infield ground outs to Jon Bower at third, Porter at catcher and Sammy Lammes at second to keep the visitors off the scoreboard.

“Getting those outs and keeping them from taking a 1-0 lead was huge,” said Holley Coach Jason Cole.

Now at 16-4, Holley will now face the winner of the No. 6 Mynderse vs. No. 3 Alexander game in the semifinals on May 26.

Barker 8, Cassadaga Valley 1

No. 8 Barker defeated visiting No. 9 Cassadaga Valley 8-1 in the Section VI Class C pre-quarterfinals as Eddie Wasnock pitched a 3 hitter with 6 strikeouts.

Tanner Gregoire led the Raiders at the plate banging out 3 hits including RBI singles in both the third and fifth innings and a run producing double in the fourth.

Barker scored 3 runs in both the third and fifth frames and 2 in the fourth.

Barker next visits top seeded Gowanda in the quarterfinals on May 26.

Maryvale 12, Albion 3

Plagued by errors and walks, No. 10 Albion dropped a 12-3 decision at No. 7 Maryvale in a Section VI Class B1 pre-quarterfinal contest.

Trey Hart hit a two-run homer in the third inning to pull Albion to within one at 4-3 but the Purple Eagles could get no closer. Hart had 2 hits on the day.

Maryvale answered with four run scoring bursts in both the fifth and sixth innings to put a lock on the win.
