Looking to improve upon last year’s runner-up finish, the Holley boys soccer squad returns a large contingent of 11 regulars with which to make a strong run at the Genesee Region League title this season.
The Hawks returnees include goalie Patrick Bower, defenders Chris Balys, Bryce Baxter, Tyler Hill and James Skehan; midfielders Derek McArthur, Will Harrington, Dylan McKay and Bailey Schubmehl and attackers Andrew Cary and Antonio Puente. All are seniors except Bower who is a junior.
Balys and Cary both earned first team G-R All-Star honors and McArthur received Honorable Mention. Cary had 9 goals and 8 assists and McArthur 3 goals and 6 assists last year.
“We have a lot of experience back and we’re hoping that experience shows,” said Coach Dan Orbaker. “The keys for us will be to possess the ball and to play better defense.”
The Hawks will tune up for the September 6 G-R opener at defending champion Wheatland-Chili by hosting their own tournament on August 31 and September 2. Holley will face Roy-Hart in the tourney opener.
W-C just edged Holley out for the G-R crown last fall going 7-2-1 as the Hawks went 7-3 (11-6 overall).
