Hawks, Eagles score diamond wins in sectional openers
Holley literally walked home with a victory in the opening round of the Section V Class CC baseball playoffs this afternoon as a bases loaded walk capped an eighth inning rally lifting the No. 8 seeded Hawks past No. 9 Letchworth 5-4.
Kendall likewise earned a Class CC win as the No. 10 Eagles defeated No. 7 Dundee 5-2 at Newark.
Trailing 4-3, Holley scored twice in the bottom of the eighth to clam the win. First an RBI sacrifice fly by Josh Porter knotted the score and then, after two walks loaded the bases, Brandon Weaver drew another two out walk to force in the game winning run. A hit batter and a single by Dylan Hillabush ignited the last ditch rally.
Letchworth had grabbed a brief 4-3 lead with a run in the top of the eighth.
Porter, Joe DeFelice, Weaver, Hillabush and Nick Passarell each had two hits on the day for Holley.
Kendall 5, Dundee 2
Alex Sutphen scattered four hits and struck out 11 on the mound to lead Kendall past Dundee. He also helped himself out defensively by picking off two runners and offensively by banging out a pair of hits.
Kendall scored three times in the fourth inning highlighted by a two-run single by Cody Spellan.
The Eagles later added an insurance tally in the seventh as Mookie Nauden scored on a passed ball.
