Hamlin man suffers accidental gunshot wound in Carlton

CARLTON – A Hamlin man suffered an accidental gunshot wound in the neck today, Orleans County Sheriff Chris Bourke said.

The Sheriff’s 911 Communication Center received a report of a male suffering from a gunshot wound on Winding Road in Waterport at 3:14 p.m.

Carlton Fire/EMS, COVA Ambulance and Orleans County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene with a 60-year-old man from Hamlin who was conscious. He reported to deputies that he was walking on the pathway to his cottage on Winding Road, when his AMT 380 cal. semi-auto handgun accidently dropped on the ground and discharged.

The bullet entered the right front side of the victim’s neck and exited the right rear side. The man was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.
