Hamlin man charged in Murray hit-and-run that seriously injured girl

MURRAY – A Hamlin man has been arrested following a hit-and-run last Friday on Monroe-Orleans County Line Road in the Town of Murray.

At about 8:30 p.m., a 14-year-old girl was struck and seriously injured on County Line Road. A pickup truck was travelling southbound, and continued in that direction after the girl was struck, Orleans County Undersheriff Chris Bourke said.

The girl was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester by Mercy Flight.

About an hour after the incident, the driver of the truck turned himself in to deputies. Cody L. Buzard, 23, of 2559 Redman Rd. was arrested after failing field sobriety tests.

He has been charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs, driving across hazard markings, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the third degree, leaving the scene of a personal injury motor vehicle accident and vehicular assault in the second degree (felony).

Buzard was arraigned in the Town of Murray Court, and bail was set at $25,000 cash/$50,000 bond. He will return to court at a later date.

The Orleans County Sheriff’s Office has spoken with a family member of the victim who reported that she was being treated for a broken femur, shattered pelvis, laceration to her spleen and will not begin to walk again for three months, Bourke said.
