Barker High senior Jacob Haight, a four year varsity starter for the Raiders, will continue his basketball career at Niagara County Community College this fall.

Haight will be playing under Coach Bill Beilein who is a ’96 Barker graduate. Ironically, Haight passed Beilein as Barker’s all-time leading scorer this past season with 1,338 points.

“We are happy to have Jake join the Thunderwolves program,” said Coach Beilein.  “We really feel we have one of the best players from Western New York coming in as a freshman.”

He is a three time first Team Niagara-Orleans All-League player and a fourth team All-Western New York honoree this past season.

A first team All-WNY football player this past season, Haight won sectionals in two events in track and field last spring. The holder of three Barker school track and field records, he will be competing this weekend at sectionals.

“For those of us that know Jacob, two things really jump out and surprisingly, it is not his athletic ability,” said Barker basketball Coach and Athletic Director Dave Carson. “First, Jacob is the epitome of a team player.  It is tough to believe the school’s all-time leading scorer in basketball also ranked third in the league in assists this past season.  Jacob helped lead the Raider’s to a perfect 18-0 regular season and was the co-captain of the school’s first league championship basketball team in 36 years.  This team was known for their unselfish play which was led by their humble stars, Jacob Haight and Mitchell Luckman.  The second thing Jacob is known for is being a friend to everyone.  It is funny to see the 3-sport star talking to a 7th grader in the hallway or an athlete from another school that he just met.  Jacob’s charisma, charm, and outstanding work ethic will take him to great places.”
