H.S. sports contests are frozen out

Temperatures this morning hovering at or below zero with wind chills in the -20 degree range which caused the closing or delays of area schools have also frozen out most of tonight’s schedule of over a dozen high school sports contests.

In the Niagara-Orleans League, the postponements include the Newfane at Medina, Akron at Roy-Hart and Barker at Wilson boys basketball games; the Medina at Newfane, Roy-Hart at Akron and Wilson at Barker girls basketball games as well as the Albion at Medina, Barker at Newfane and Roy-Hart at Akron swim meets.

Because Albion is on a delay opening for Regents exams and CSAT is open today the basketball games between the two schools may be played this evening. Albion Athletic Director Randy Knaak reports that a decision is expected later this morning. Albion is slated to host CSAT in girls basketball and visit CSAT in boys basketball.

Athletic Directors Mark Kruzynski at Medina and John Jablonski at Roy-Hart report that weather permitting the N-O contests involving those schools are expected to be made up on Wednesday.

In the Genesee Region League postponed is the Holley at Wheatland-Chili girls basketball game.

Two non league wrestling matches, Alexander at Medina and Albion at Lyndonvlle, are also postponed.
