Green qualifies for berth in the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship

Medina’s Melanie Green qualified today at Kenwood Golf & Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland for a spot in the upcoming 119th U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship.

Green shot a 2-over 73 to earn co-medalist honors in the 34-person qualifier and secure one of three available spots. She birdied the 16th hole to earn the spot.

Earlier this year, Green who will be a senior at Medina High this fall, won her third consecutive Section VI golf championship, and a  second straight state title.

The 119th U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship, the oldest women’s golf tournament in the country, is set to be held August 5-11 at Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point, Miss.

A field of 156 competitors will play 36 holes of stroke play over two days, before the field is narrowed down to the Top 64 for match play.
