Green places third at state golf championships

Medina High freshman Melanie Green tied for third place at the state girls golf championships held Saturday and today at Bethpage State Park in Farmingdale.
Green, carded a three over par round of 75 today to finish five shots behind tourney champion Lauren Peter of Section I who finished the day at four under.
She was tied for second place two shots off the pace after the opening round on Saturday when she shot a two under par 70.
Green, who finished one over for the tournament, advanced to the state tourney after capturing the Section VI championship.
In the boys state tournament being played today and Monday at Cornell University, Medina freshman Ian Wagner is 10 shots off the pace after the first round.
