Moving into the top 10, Medina’s Melanie Green had a big four under par second round today at the 44th Girls Junior PGA championship being held at the Keney Park Golf Course at Hartford, Connecticut.

Green, who shot an even par round of 70 on day one, shot a flawless (no bogeys) round of 66 today  for a two day total of 136. She went one under par with a 34 on the front nine and three under with a 32 on the back nine.

That score puts her in a tie for ninth place six shots behind tourney leader Rose Zhang from Irvine, California who had a 7 under par round of 63 for a two day total of 130.

Green moved to one under par after today’s first nine holes as she birdied No. 7.  She then moved into contention by notching three birdies on the back nine on holes 10, 13 and 17 to go four under par for the tourney.

Following tourney leader Zhang, there are two golfers tied at 9 under, one at 7 under, one at six under, three  at five under and four at four under including Green.

The tourney will conclude with 18 hole rounds on both Thursday and Friday.

Green, who successfully defended her Section VI and state high school championships this spring, qualified for the national championship by winning the Western New York Junior PGA title for the second year in a row.
