Green is set to play at Augusta
It will be a special week in the young golf career of Medina High graduate and University of South Florida senior Melanie Green who is one of 72 players invited to compete in the Women’s Amateur Golf Tournament at Augusta, Georgia.
The first two rounds on Wednesday and Thursday will be played at the Champions Retreat Golf Club near Augusta.
The top 30 players, including ties, will advance to the championship round on Saturday which will be played at Augusta National, the site of The Masters.
In addition, the entire field of 72 players will play a practice round at Augusta National on Friday.
Green is scheduled to tee off for her first round at 9:21 Wednesday morning on the 10th tee.
“It’s going to be an incredible experience. It’s a tournament like no other. So much history. Yeah, it’s going to be pretty special,” said Green during an interview with the USF Athletics. “It’s an incredible golf course. I’ve never seen it in person and I’m grateful I will be able to do that.”
Green, who is ranked 24th in the NCAA Women’s Golf Individual Rankings and 59th in the World Women’s Amateur Golf Rankings, is having an outstanding senior season. She has won two tournaments and has eight top six finishes since September. Averaging 69.71 per round for the 2023-24 year to date, she has fired par or better on 23 of 24 rounds.
A three-time American Athletic All-Conference honoree, she also earned All America Honorable Mention her junior year.
The Golf Channel will have live coverage of the first two rounds from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. on both Wednesday and Thursday. NBC will then have live coverage of the championship round from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday.
