Struggling on the back nine, Medina’s Melanie Green posted a three over par round of 75 today to open competition at the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship being held at the Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point, Miss.

Green got off to a strong start on the front nine posting a one under par score of 35. She registered birdies on the 1st, 3rd and 8th holes to more than offset bogeys on the 4th and 7th holes.

However, the back nine proved troublesome as she had a double bogey on 17, bogeys on 10, 11 and 13 and just one birdie, on 16, to post a four over par score of 40 and finish the day with a three over 75.

She is currently 8 shots behind co-leaders Michaela Morand and Andrea Lee who both carded 5 under par rounds of 67.

The field of 156 players will play another 18 hole round of stroke play on Tuesday after which the field will be cut to 64 for match play competition which begins on Wednesday.
