Green leads at halfway point of state tourney

Medina High junior Melanie Green holds a one shot lead after the first 18 holes of the state golf championships being held at Deerfield Country Club near Brockport.
Green, who is the defending champion, shot an even par round of 72 today to grab a one shot lead over Bailey Shoemaker from Section IV.
Last year Green claimed the title with a two shot win over Shoemaker.
Green was one over after nine holes but put together a string of three straight birdies on holes 14, 15 and 16 to go one under. She bogeyed 17 and pared 18 to finish even at 72.
The tournament will conclude on Sunday with another round of 18 holes beginning at 9 a.m.
