Green begins competition at Pebble Beach

Competing in a major national tournament for the second time in as many weeks, Medina’s Melanie Green opened competition today at the USGA Girls Jr. Championships being held on the Poppy Hills course at Pebble Beach in California.
Green posted a 6 over par round of 77 which included 11 pars, 1 birdie, 5 bogeys and 1 double bogey.
Stroke compeition will continue on Tuesday after which the field will be cut to the top 64 scores, including ties, for the match play portion of the tournament which begins on Wednesday.
Last week Green posted a 1 over par total of 289 at the Girls Jr. PGA Championships at Lexington, Kenturcky. She concluded that four day event with her best round of 69.
